I've trained martial arts since I was a kid in 1987 — and I've spent the years since figuring out what actually makes a person stronger and harder to hurt. This dojo is where all of that comes together.
"The belt doesn't defend you. The habits you build do."
My path started in 1987 as a kid, and it never really stopped. Over the years I've trained and taught across several traditions — Shotokan Karate, Kempo Karate through Temple Kung Fu under Grandmaster Simon, Gōjū-ryū Meibukan Karate, Matayoshi Kobudō, Taekwondo, and kickboxing. Each one changed how I understand movement, distance, and what it really takes to protect yourself.
This building was purpose-built for karate in 2001. I bought it in 2020 from Sensei Ron Porath and made it my own — a dedicated space to teach the way I believe martial arts should be taught.

A lot of martial artists will tell you karate is self-defense. I don't. Karate is how you build the strength, reflexes, and composure that real self-defense is actually made of.
We train the body hard. A stronger, more capable body is the foundation everything else is built on.
We sharpen reactions and timing under pressure — the split-second habits that actually transfer when it counts.
A clear head decides the outcome more than any technique. We train you to stay calm and think.
Respect, effort, and follow-through — the habits that outlast any belt.
Honest, earned progress for every age and every starting point.
A welcoming dojo where families train and grow side by side.
Dojo Grocery funds the program and keeps training accessible.
Our grocery store is more than a fundraiser — it's how we keep quality instruction going and give back to the neighbourhood. 100% of the profit funds classes, gear, and gradings. You don't have to train to support the dojo; you just have to eat well.
